Teaching the workshop at Ho A Mekka8% of all my profits will go to a women’s Art Cooperative 'Snahilnichimetic'.

During my travels around Central America I spent time in 'Ha O Mekka', a spiritual community in the little village Tzajala in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico. I was offered to teach a batik workshop to a group of indigenous women of the village Tzajala. In the Art Cooperative connected to Ha O Mekka, 'Snahilnichimetic' (which means house of flowers in Tzeltal, the Mayan dialect of this region), a group of women come together to find alternative ways to earn an income as the poverty in this region makes it hard to pay for anything more than food. One of the projects the Tzeltal women are working on at this moment is starting a batiked postcard business, using homemade recycled paper and batiked pre Hispanic and Mayan images on cotton. If you are interested to support the women’s art coop by buying their postcards or any of their other crafts, please contact Sylviane at sylvianezakuc@hotmail.com for more information.
